DIY Insect Shield Candles

I first got this idea when I was at Target and I found these adorable little tin buckets. They were spring themed and so all of them were 50% off. They were originally ONLY $1 so I got  each for $.50!!!!!! I was so excited to make my Insect Shield outdoor candles with them. Not only will you be able to spend your summer outdoors with the bugs not bothering you, but you will do it in style 🙂

What you will need:ingredients

  • Soy Wax– about 5 cups (Can use Beeswax too)
  • Candle Wick
  • Candle Holder (The link HERE takes you to a nice option too!)
  • 50-70 Drops Insect Shield (Or your favorite essential oil for any occasion)
  • Pan
  • Glass container with spout

Add the wax and the essential oils in your glass container with spout. 5 cups

Add a small amount of water to the bottom of your pan and put on medium heat. Put the glass container in the pan.photo2

Allow wax to melt while stirring.photo1

Once wax has melted, slowly pour the wax into your candle holder. I put a little sticker on the bottom of the candle wick so it would stay down!photo3

Make sure the candle wick is centered. Pour until to the desired height. Let dry. When ready to use, simply light the wick and as the wax starts to melt, ENJOY the aroma (or the fact that the bugs aren’t biting you 🙂 )!!!!!

Aren’t these just absolutely cute?!?!?!???

I also love this idea as a bridal shower gift using Sensual 😉

naturalscentedcandlesHow fun to put these small candles around your house or bath for a romantic night! All that is missing are some rose petals! More one how to do these romantic candles on another post 🙂

Foot Exfoliate and Scrub

Summer is quickly coming and that means SANDALS! After you have been wearing socks and shoes all winter, and your skin is dry, your feet aren’t looking so pretty 😦

I have found a foot exfoliate/scrub that will help get your feet looking BRAND NEW! Your feet look soft and smooth. You can use whatever essential oil will best fit your needs, but for mine I did Soft Skin Synergy!

What you will need:

Mix first 4 ingredients in glass bowl. Put Cocoa Butter in a small microwavable safe container and microwave until melted. Add the food coloring and essential oils to Cocoa Butter. Add Cocoa Butter mixture to dry ingredients. Stir really good (I used my hands to mix). Then add to the molds. Make sure you press really hard in the molds ! Let dry until molds are easily popped out, about 3 hours.

Once they are completely dry, I went and sat on the edge of my bath tub and scrubbed the bottom of my feet. I then rinsed my feet. They were are so soft! I love that the Cocoa Butter leaves a small amount of butter on them and the salt does a nice soft scrub. This is great for getting your feet ready for the summer!

beforeafterAs you can see I don’t have bad heels at all but you can still tell a little difference. I will be using the scrub as a daily exfoliator. I love the way it feels and the smell!

I used the droppings from the scrub to rub my hands down and anything else that needed exfoliated. I loved it!

The smell of the Soft Skin is divine! Next I want to try Tingly Mint! I bet that would feel amazing!

???What essential oils would you like in YOUR foot scrub???

What a GREAT Mother’s Day present! Put them in a cute container and write a note! The Mother’s in your life will love you and their feet will love you MORE 😉

DIY Essential Lip Balm

I have a friend that raises bees way down in the back country of South Carolina, USA.
She makes all sorts of goodies that she sells at local specialty shops.
(with the help of her bees, of course!)
One thing that I love is her beeswax lip balm. I was able to get the recipe from her so I could try my hand at one of
her wonderful creations. I could not believe how incredibly EASY and FAST it was to make! She only makes them in peppermint but the aroma combinations are endless.
My favorite was Cappuccino, a mixture of Vanilla and Coffee essential oil. YUMMY!!
My husband enjoyed the tingling sensation he got from the Peppermint.
Some great ideas would be Lemon, Key Lime, Mandarin, Spearmint, Wintergreen, and Tingly Mint
You could even try mixing Vanilla and Orange to create a Creamsicle Lip Balm!
The sky is the limit!
What you will need:

Each tube holds 1 teaspoon of balm.

Heat 1″ of water in a small saucepan over med -low heat.
In a small jar, mix the coconut oil with the beeswax.  Pop open the vitamin E capsule and add the liquid to the mixture.
Stir until everything is completely melted.
Right before you remove the mixture from the heat, add your favorite essential oils.
Depending on which essential oil you choose, the amount you will need will vary.
For example, Peppermint and Cinnamon, have a much stronger aroma than Vanilla and Coffee, so you would use less Peppermint and more Vanilla.
Start with 10 drops and go from there.
Dab a small amount of the mixture with your finger, and apply to your lips to test the strength of the oil.
If the mixture starts to harden before you can pour it into all of your containers, simply put the glass jar with the liquid back into the hot water to re-melt.  As you can see above, it started to cool before I could even snap a photo! Once the mixture is in all of the containers, let it sit on the counter until firm, about 20 minutes.  Store in a cool, dry place.

This ratio can vary if you find it to be too hard or too soft. It is definitely not an exact science, it is what you prefer.

Personally, I like this consistency.  It leaves a perfect “coating” of balm on my lips with out it feeling like it is caked on.
As I was trying out the recipe, I made one batch with a little bit of honey.  I had a hard time getting it to mix with the oils.  I would still recommend it, but with caution.
You can also add a small amount of Shea or Cocoa butter, if you are not allergic to them.
This would be a great gift for anyone! Make a large batch and print of cute labels for Mother’s Day, Birthdays, Father’s Day, Christmas and so many more!

Directions:gelatin making

Bring one cup of water to a boil in the small saucepan. Add the gelatin. Whisk until smooth and gelatin has dissolved. Once gelatin is dissolved add the salt and second cup of water. Set aside.

Add the essential oils and food coloring to the jar. Dump the gelatin mixture on top and stir. Allow to cool.

gelatin finished

Aren’t these great! They smell so good and I think they are  so cute. I used a large size gelatin to get a texture. I wanted to be able to stir mine when the smell got low. I love the way it turned out. They kind of look like the Crystal Air Fresheners. Nobody would guess that you made these yourself. Plus, they are not full of all of the toxic perfumes!! Your Mothers, and everyone else in their lives, will thank you!!!!
